Singer Update #4—6/19

Dear Consort Singers, Thanks to some of our very excellent singers, I have a few little updates and notes for you all. First, I’m thrilled to say that thanks to Jon Curtis, the rehearsal notes page on the website is functional again! A link to it can always be found in the members’ section of the website, and in the footer of these emails. And thanks to David Miller, a few notes that were previously on the spreadsheet have been corrected. He noted, correctly, that in the Haydn Gloria, notes for measures 41 to 45 should apply to SAT, but not basses.

Learning files and PDF for Goodnight Moon I accidentally bought a PDF version of Goodnight Moon, so in case anyone was interested in using it, I have added it to Norm’s Dropbox folder with PDFs of the various scores. More relevantly, I hope, I also have some learning files for that piece available. You will find a link to them on the website.

Ariel Quintana’s Mass From Two Worlds David Irvine sent the following note, which Allan asked me to pass along to you all: I found my original (autographed) score. Here’s part of what Ariel wrote in his Notes from the composer: “Full of passion and drama, “Mass From Two Worlds” is a piece which many will find to be eclectic in its musical styles and influences. It has a touch of South American rhythm, shades of French colors, and occasional ventures into Renaissance and Romanticism.”

Solo opportunities There are a few different solo possibilities this summer. Unless we learn otherwise, solo auditions will be held before the July 19 rehearsal at 9 am. Please sign up to indicate your interest in auditioning via this form. Pronunciation guide: Va, pensiero For those who want a more in-depth audio pronunciation guide for the Verdi piece, this is a fantastic video by a native Italian speaker made specifically for opera choruses. She goes into a little more depth than what we probably need—for example, I would say not to worry too much about closed vs open vowels—but otherwise I hope it will be helpful!
