Gloria in Excelsis Deo (Kevin a. Memley, 1971-) GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO
Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace to all those of good will. We praise thee. We bless thee. We worship thee. We glorify thee. we give thanks to thee according to thy great glory. Lord God, Heaenly King, God the Father almighty. Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son. Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father. Thou who takest away the sins of the world, have mercy upon us. Thou who takest away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. Thou who sittest at the right hand of the Father, have mercy upon us. For Thou alone art holy. Thou alone art the Lord. Thou alone art the most high, Jesus Christ. With thy Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father; Amen. Working with high school students in Fresno, CA, Kevin Memley is a dedicated teacher and pianist. ut his compositional craftsmanship is capturing the attention of musicians world wide. His Magnificat was written and dedicated to Dr. Anna Hamre at Fresno State University, his Gloria was written to honor Dr. Roy Klassen, Condutctor of the San Joaquin Valley Chorale. Let Music Fill the Air (Gwyneth Walker 1947- ) Stabat Mater dolorosa juxta crucem lacrimosa, dum pendebat Filius. Cuius animam gementem, contristatam et dolentem pertransivit gladius. Vidit suum dulcem Natum moriendo desolatum, dum emisit spiritum. Are you troubled? Music will calm you. Are you weary? Rest shall be there. Are you fearful, alone and silent? Raise your voice in song. Let music fill the air! Music gives sound to the universe, Music gives wings to the mind, Flight to the imagination, A charm to sadness, gaiety and life to everything. Let my voice speak. Let my heart rise on wings of song. It is the essence of order, and leads to all that is good, Just and beautiful, of which it is the invisible, But everlasting dazzling, passionate and eternal glow. Let my voice speak! Let my heart rise on wings of song! Let music fill the air. Dr. Gwyneth Walker resigned from her post at Oberlin College Conservatory in 1982 to pursue a career as a full-time composer. A proud resident of Vermont, her catalog now boasts over 170 commissioned works for orchestra, band, chorus and chamber music. Salmo 150 (Ernani Aguiar, 1949-) Praise the Lord in his sacred places, Praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts, Praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet, Praise him with the psaltery and the harp. Praise him with the timbrel and the dance. Praise him with strings and pipes. Praise him with high-sounding cymbals, Praise him with cymbals of joy. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! One of the best known living composers in Brazil, Ernani Aguiar writes choral and instrumental music, and is also a musicologist of Brazilian 18th century music. Maria Magdalena (Andrea Gabrieli, 1510-1586) Maria and the other Mary went forth at dawn to the tomb: Jesus whom you seek is not here: He has risen and has gone before you into Galilee; There you will see him. Alleluia. The uncle of better-known Giovanni Gabrieli, Andrea was celebrated widely in his own time. A friend of Orlando de Lassus, his famous pupils include Zacconi, Hassler and Sweelinck. Abendlied (Joseph Rheinberger, 1839-1901) Bide (stay) with us, for evening shadows darken, and the day will soon be over. Joseph Rheinberger became organist at Vaduz Parish Church at age 7; his first composition was performed when he was 8. Later a composition and piano professor at the Munich Conservatory, his music is enjoying a resurgence today. Les Fleurs et les Arbres (Camille Saint-Saëns, 1835 – 1921)
Camille Saint-Saëns was not only an amazing composer but also a gifted mathematician, an astronomer and a playwright. Close friend to Liszt and Berlioz, he also became a dear friend to his pupil, Gabriel Faure. Northern Lights (Ola Gjeilo, 1978 – ) Thou art beautiful, O my love, Sweet and perfect as Jerusalem, Glorious as an army set in array. Turn away thy eyes from me, For (I am overcome and) they have made me flee away. The music of Manhattan-based Norwegian composer and pianist Ola Gjeilo has been performed in more than 30 countries and commissioned by many of the world’s most prestigious artists and organizations. Ubi Caritas (Richard Burchard, 1960-) Where charity and love are, God is there. We are gathered as one by Christ’s love. Let us rejoice and be glad. Let us revere and love the living God. And may we love each other with a sincere heart. Where charity and love are, God is there. In the same way as we gather into one body, be attentive, lest we be divided in mind. Cease wrongful quarreling and conflict. And let Christ, our God, dwell in our midst. Where charity and love are, God is there. May we along with the blessed saints see Thy face in glory, O Christ, our God: The joy that is immeasurable and goodm fir akk ages and into eternity. Amen. Richard Burchard is Associate Professor of Music and Department Chair at Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky. He Hath Come to Aid His Servant Israel III. Gloria Patri Consort Chorale consists of selected choral singers primarily from the San Francisco Bay Area who are dedicated to the choral art form. Every summer, for the past seventeen years, the group has auditioned in May, gathered for almost-weekly rehearsals and then an intensive week of nightly rehearsals, culminating in a crowdpleasing concert. The unique “intensive” format comes with certain limitations, but provides an opportunity for singers to share in their love of choral music through the ages. We are indebted to the artistic rehearsal contributions of Martha Wall, David Irvine and Ruth E. Wells, whose assistance in preparation is immeasurable. We are proud to share that Consort Chorale has twice toured Eastern Europe. Allan Robert Petker , founder-director of Consort Chorale, is an internationally known choral conductor, clinician and prolific composer with over 250 published works. He is the President of Pavane Publishing and the Director of Publications for the Fred Bock Music Companies. He is the Artistic Director and Conductor of the Santa Clarita Master Chorale and the Director of Music at the First Presbyterian Church in San Pedro. For the past 12 years he has served as Dean for two music conferences at Lake Tahoe.
